|Atelier Relief presents
an exhibition by Melonie FOSTER Hennessy, curated by Joanna Chevalier.
Exhibition from Friday, October 14th to Saturday, November 12th 2016,
Opening Thursday, October 13th 2016, from 6pm to 9pm.
Melonie FOSTER Hennessy's Dorian is a mutant. Comparable to the Gods, he is magnificent.
He borrows his beauty from Narcissus, his search for immortality from
Gilles de Rais, his vanity from Dorian Gray... He holds more of Frankenstein than of his monster.
Melonie FOSTER Hennessy's universe is one of science fiction, nanotechnology and biotechnology.
The origins of her «Dorian» dwell within XIX century fantastique literature, the Abyss, alchemy, spiritism and all that which seeks the path of immortality. «I'm beautiful, O mortals! As a dream of stone...» As a dream of eternal beauty, a dream of excess and power. A dream of transcendence.
Melonie reveals her hero through a series of haunted, pre-Raphaelite, gothic portraits. Extracts from the Genesis, quotes from the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Baudelaire, Shelley and naturally Oscar Wilde, accompany her photographs.
Here, we enter not into a gallery. We access Dorian's sanctuary - sombre, gloomy, poisonous.
