Esteban Cortazar x colette

Esteban Cortazar introduces the dynamism of Colombian culture to colette, timed to the year of France + Colombia 2017
Every year, France invites a non-neighboring country to establish and strengthen bilateral relations by sharing and organizing cultural and artistic initiatives. Following previous partnerships with Vietnam and Korea, 2017 is being recognized as the year of Colombia.

To celebrate this occasion, the Colombian Paris-based designer Esteban Cortazar has partnered with colette to curate and showcase a variety of products from Colombia, available exclusively at colette from July 10th until July 22nd. For the first week, colette will dedicate its two large front windows to the project, recreating a typical Colombian tiendita (local shop). Colombian flavor will permeate colette's water-bar where Cortazar will collaborate with buzzy Parisian restaurant Candelaria and Colombian chef, Carlos Peñarredonda, to dream up a special menu of typical Colombian dishes for the duration of the project.

Comprising art books, music, clothing, accessories, artisanal products, and even local sweets, the selection curated by Cortazar sheds a strong spotlight on Colombian culture, craftsmanship, and a new generation of talented artists and designers. The idea is to integrate pieces that are unmistakably Colombian into the ultimate Parisian retail destination.

Among the standout items: An exquisite Botero limited-edition book published by Assouline along with other fashion magazines and Colombian coffee table books. Soy Bogotá by La Oficina del Doctor and Kristina McLean with the support of contemporary art gallery Casas Riegner offers a sleek insider's guide to the country's capital. Worldwide music superstar J Balvin has created a unique hoodie for the occasion and will take over the music section of the boutique for the launch. Vibrant woven chairs from local furniture designer Ramon Laserna will punctuate the store space with additional flare. And alongside charming keepsakes from Artesanias de Colombia will be canvas totes printed with illustrations by Cortazar's father, artist Valentino Cortazar.

The selection from Colombian fashion designers and artists includes playful socks made by Loopzu in collaboraton with Cortazar, Paula Mendoza's distinctive circular jewelry; Nancy Gonzalez colorful handbags; table lighters by Hunting Season; striking handcrafted accessories from the Wayuu and Kuna indigenous communities; updated traditional accessories from designers Mola Sasa, Casa Chiqui, and Mercedes Salazar; and the flamboyant headpieces from Magnetic Midnight, a line developed by Lucia Echavarria and local artisans.

Cortazar's work will be represented through a series of his signature Neoprene-hemmed ruffle dresses available in various bright colors. The occasion also marks the debut of his sportswear range produced in Colombia by local brand SevenSeven, which consists of unisex pieces such as hoodies, T-shirts and caps, featuring iconic Colombian pop imagery and messaging.

Finally, Cortazar invited Paris-based designers such as Yaz Bukey and We Dare Paris skateboards to realize their vision of Colombia through the conception of inspired items.

Beyond colette, as part of the programming overseen by the Institut de France, Cortazar has designed a canvas tote fronted with a stylized Colombian motif.
