The "Rank" flashes.
The "day" flashes.
The "month" flashes.
The "time" flashes.

Bell is composed of a digital sound file that is irregularly timed and triggered through a sound system made for public announcements such as metro systems, airports, places of prayer and schools.

(a) a sound may both be a word and have a meaning --- for instance, "she"; (b) a sound may have a meaning but not be a word --- for instance, the barking of a dog; (c) a sound may be a word but have no meaning --- for instance, "blituri" (this was the traditional designation for the sound of the harp); (d) a sound may neither be a word nor have any meaning --- for instance, a whistling or buzzing, or a sound made by some wild animal, by chance and not with the aim of signifying or representing anything.*

A version of Bell, called Jingle, was first heard at the Liverpool Biennial in 2016.

Nick Bastis (b. 1985, US) lives in Vilnius, via Chicago
Gintaras Didžiapetris (b.1985 Vilnius, Lithuania) is an artist living and working in Vilnius

Ermes-Ermes was founded in 2015. It began as a gallery without a permanent space, and shows are still occasionally presented in different private and public venues. These particularities of space and time impose themselves on the exhibitions; disorientations which at their best have opened unexpected ways of making exhibitions. Since March 2017, Ermes-Ermes has been located in a 19th century horse stable in Vienna. The program presents international artists of different media.
