Show: 01 August - 31 August 2017
Finissage: Thursday 31 August 7-9pm
Alex merges traditional illustration techniques with the most up to date digital processes. The two approaches are inseparable in the meticulous creation of his images, which take up to 80 hours of digital/hand techniques. This series of 4 illustrations is part of a body of work related to North American natives and their creation myths.
The starting point for these images lay in a reflection on the disinformation in the telling of native American Indian history, and underlying themes ever present in his work: truth, lies, media, propaganda, misinformation, disinformation, selective editing of archives, the complicity of popular culture and the madness of not knowing what is real. They are themes often echoed by writers of science, transgressional, and dystopian fictions, and in ergodic literature. His interest lays in what role illustration can play to tell or retell these stories and histories.
